The one that got away…

bottle boss mock-up

So, Carl just got his frame and fork in Nebraska. He wrote a very nice note to let me know it arrived safe and sound.

“Dan,
The bike arrived this afternoon and i spent a while tinkering with it and setting some stuff up. It is the most amazing thing i’ve ever owned; thank you so much, it’s beautiful work.”… “Thanks again so much, I couldn’t be more pleased, and I can’t wait to ride it.”

It might be a little while before I have any fully built photos of it, he’s still compiling parts for it. The thing is, however, that I sent it and it’s lovely chrome plated handlebar bag rack and low-riders and fenders and lights without taking any photos of it post-powder coat and chrome and not one single photo of the complete frame. (Smacking forehead, repeatedly)

Carl was so impressed with my Oregon Manifest entry from 2009 that he ordered one up to closely resemble it. Different color and updated low-rider rack design, but essentially the same bike. Better tire clearances and higher bottom bracket, though. Lessons learned, lessons learned.

Anyhow, I put a few photos together from the construction process in a gallery here.

Next up is an S&S randonneur with 700c wheels. This one is going to Paris in August for PBP 2011. Updates soon…

FLASH! 01/06/2010 Looks like I did take a few photos of the powdercoated frame and fork as I set up the dynamo powered tail light. They were buried in the camera and I just happened to find them. So, now you can see how lovely the powder came out and get a better idea about some of the details.

Still no full profile shot of the frame, though. Oh, well.
