Another Boxer off to the Finishers

Vinny’s frame and fork are at the powder coater and the rack and little bits are at the plater. Next week is final assembly. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. It has a few nice little touches that seem to get refined a bit one way or another with each new bike. This is not to say that earlier bikes are crude in any way, just a little different. All are sweet in their own way, certainly to their owners!

Gotta get moving on the next project, a bike Dan wanted to model on the Sport Wagon concept like the BMW, Mercedes and Audi offerings. These automobiles provide comfort, a fair degree of luxury, quality in construction, plenty of utility and above all excellent performance. So this probably sounds like marketing gobbledy-guck, but we’re shooting for all these attributes.

As it turns out, it will look a fair bit like Lisa’s recent project with a large platform rack up front, dynamo headlight, triple gearing, stainless fenders, but this one will use the superb Grand Bois Hetre tires. As learned with the Oregon Manifest bike, reviewed in the Winter 2009 Bicycle Quarterly issue, these tires require very significant clearances, especially with fenders. This time around, we’re confident we’ll nail the clearances.

Pictures of Vinny’s project pre-powder and plating are in a gallery here.
Enjoy!

What an elegant fender light mount. Is that a custom fixture? I’ve been looking for something just like that.

Thanks Jon! This is a custom design. At present, I am not offering these separate from a full bike order. If I get some down time, I may make a batch, but no time frame on that as I am busy as all get out. Cheers!

I’m excited to see how you execute the next project. It sounds like a fun challenge, one I’m sure you’ll tackle quite successfully. Cheers*

Joshua – I, too, am excited by the challenge. The fork is completed and looks great. This week I build the frame and muck about with the rear tire/fender clearance. Cool.

Vinny – YES! Rack and bits are ready at the plater. Should hear from the powder guys today. YES.
