The current issue of Bicycle Quarterly includes a test review of the same bike entered in the Oregon Manifest Design Challenge and Constructor’s Race. You can get a copy of the magazine here. Scroll down to mid page for a nice photo of the bike.
Aside from the review of this Boxer Bicycle, there are excellent articles about the Oregon Manifest event, including an “embedded reporter’s” perspective on the Constructor’s Race, an article that contrasts the Oregon Manifest Design Challenge with the French Technical trials of the 30s and 40s, and a fascinating article about Paul Charrel, a little-known but well respected classic constructor from Lyon. I highly recommend you check out this issue as well as any back issues of Bicycle Quarterly.
We had a fine time, spent with family at the coast for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The cabin was spacious and comfortable, the weather lovely, and the setting was breath taking. We spent many hours on the beaches in and around La Push, sifting through the flotsam washed up on shore, marveling at the aquatic life in tide pools seated beneath tall haystack-like land masses and arches, and wondering at the enormity of entire old growth trees tossed on the beach by storm forces unimaginable.
It’s good to be back in town and back in the shop. I’ve been getting a lot done the past few days and now have two additional days each week to build bikes. Very exciting times around here!
I’ve made a lot of progress on Lisa’s bike. Check out the photos.

Nice site! And even better write up in BQ. Can you feel the wind filling up the sails yet?
Hey Dan, Great Website bones. Can’t wait to see how its hashed out. Awesome pics of the coast by the way, it looks like you had a fantastic time.
Thanks for the accolades on the site guys. It will be fun to flesh it out, as time permits, but that may take a little while, as I’m busy in the shop building, building, building!
Chris, wind in the sails? Well, I’m feeling pretty up about things, but we’ll see about sustained velocities. I have had a nice, positive response to the BQ review, including a few inquiries, so all I can say to that is SWEET.
Joshua, the coast was fantastic. I’ve never been disappointed by our times in La Push, even during the less than lovely weather in July ’07. It’s all part of the experience and we look forward to visiting again!
I’m happy to see you pulling this all together, Dan.
If you can sneak away sometime, I’d like to get you out on a ride soon.
Thanks Robert. That means a lot to me.
I think an early Saturday morning ride would work. Lemme know.

Greetings, Dan,
Your post showed up in my daily alerts. I had to stop in and say how much I enjoyed those beautiful shots of the bike and the coast.
